Anthony Elanga stated that when he made the decision to leave Manchester United, he had to consider himself.
The winger signed a five-year contract with Nottingham Forest in the summer after completing the rumored £15 million move to the City Ground. So far, he has participated in ten games across all competitions under Steve Cooper’s supervision.
Elanga joined United at the age of 12, progressed through the academy, and made 124 appearances at both the youth and senior levels. He felt it was time to start a new journey after gradually losing his spot in Erik ten Hag’s squad, even though it was never going to be an easy decision to end a nine-year association with the club.
“Leaving United was a decision that was difficult, one of the biggest clubs in the world,” he stated to Mail Sport. “I needed to reflect on who I was, what I desired, and how I wanted to see myself in the coming years.
“Of course I trained hard every single day, but at the end of the day, it was the manager’s decision and it’s not up to us players.
“We can only do when we come on the pitch, we can only control what we can control on the pitch. I want to score goals, I want to assist and I feel like I’ll do that more this season.
“One, because of the team that I’m in and two because the manager gives the confidence to all the players. Whenever I get on the ball, he just tells me to not be boring.”
