Pedro Neto is wanted by Arsenal, but Wolverhampton Wanderers would seek £60 million for him, according to sources. It’s no secret that Neto, who leads the Premier League in assists this year, is a target for the Gunners. The winger was connected to a summer transfer, and reports surfaced again as the window closed.
When Mikel Arteta stated earlier this year that “two quality players per position” were necessary, it sparked a stir, especially among goalkeepers. The decision to replace Aaron Ramsdale with David Raya has strained relations with the team’s supporters, who feel that Ramsdale was wrongfully benched after his exploits in the previous campaign.
It seems sense to sign someone to rival Bukayo Saka in light of Arteta’s stance. The only other option on the right flank is Reiss Nelson.
Signing Neto would give Arsenal a more well-rounded frontline and more options to compete both domestically and in Europe. A hamstring injury has derailed the Portuguese star’s campaign in recent weeks but Wolves boss Gary O’Neil revealed on Thursday he should return soon.
Should Arsenal wish to prise the player away, they will have to fork out a hefty fee. The 23-year-old is contracted until 2027 and is instrumental to Wolves’ hopes, having joined the club from Braga four years ago.
TEAMtalk are reporting that Wolves want around £60million for Neto despite his well-documented injury problems. That would place him fourth on Arsenal’s all-time record signings, behind Kai Havertz (£65million), Nicolas Pepe (£72million) and former West Ham United man Declan Rice (£105million).
