Former Pitt CB Re-Signs With Eagles
Former Pitt Panthers corner Avonte Maddox is back with his former team.
PITTSBURGH — Former Pitt Panthers cornerback Avonte Maddox didn’t have to wait long to get back on an NFL roster after the Philadelphia Eagles released him earlier this offseason.
According to a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the former Pitt standout is back with the Eagles on a one-year deal, helping them address a void in their secondary with a reliable veteran.
Over the last six seasons, Maddox has established himself as the Eagles’ nickel cornerback. In 64 games, 38 of which were starts, he has amassed 250 total tackles, 13 for a loss, 31 passes defended, and four interceptions. He has also been effective on the field.
However, a promising start to his professional career has been disrupted by injuries. Maddox only participated in four games in 2023 due to a torn pectoral muscle, after he played in just nine games the previous season.
After an incredible career at Pitt, where he was twice selected to the All-ACC team and helped lead the Panthers to decisive victories over Penn State, then-No. 2 Miami, and then-No. 2 Clemson, Maddox was selected by the Eagles in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
