Eddie Rosario Is Officially Out of the Atlanta Braves Picture.
The outfielder’s failure to score in his second spell with the team has earned him an assignment from the Atlanta Braves.
It’s official—the Atlanta Braves are on the outs. Eddie Rosario, an outfielder, has been assigned, the team said this morning. Eli White, an outfielder, has been called up from Triple-A Gwinnett to fill the position on the roster. The 32-year-old Rosario was released by the Washington Nationals and later signed with the Braves in early July. After spending three years in Atlanta, where he played mostly left field and hit 23 home runs, the Puerto Rican outfielder joined the Washington squad. He was a major contributor to the team’s 2021 World Series victory.
But Washington moved on from him after he showed struggles in all aspects, struggling on defense while hitting just .183 with seven homers in 67 games for the Nationals. Rosario was somehow even worse for the Braves, batting just .154 across his 24 games for Atlanta.
Eli White is now expected to serve as primarily bench depth, with Ramón Laureano and Adam Duvall platooning in left field and Jorge Soler the everyday starter in right field.
After being selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 7th round of the 2017 MLB Draft, Dunshee, 29, is making his debut in the major leagues. Dunshee, who signed a minor league contract with the Braves this offseason, has split his time between Double-A Mississippi and Triple-A Gwinnett, totaling 47 innings pitched in relief for Atlanta. He’s has a 1.30 ERA, 66 strikeouts, just 18 walks, and most remarkably, he hasn’t given up a home run this season. Like Dodd, Dunshee is anticipated to be only bullpen depth. This weekend, the team intends to give Grant Holmes another start. They may also try to add another starting the following week, with Ian Anderson being mentioned as a possibility.
