Agot Makeer, a five-star guard in the Class of 2025, committed to South Carolina on Saturday afternoon.   With the early signing period now available to recruits, Makeer was one of only two players in ESPN’s top 100 recruits who had not signed yet.

After narrowing down her final three to South Carolina, UConn and Michigan State, Makeer chose coach Dawn Staley’s program.

Following a strong junior season at Crestwood Prep in Canada, Makeer was part of Canada’s silver-medal winning team at the 2024 FIBA U17 Women’s World Cup, averaging 17.7 points, 7 rebounds, and 2.3 assists.   After transferring to Montverde Academy (Florida) in the fall, she averaged 10 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.7 assists for the program despite significant injury absences.   She is expected to play in the postseason tournament, according to the team.

With complementary shooting touch and length on the perimeter, Makeer is a versatile lead guard with a knack for scoring in bunches. Her ability to create her own shot and defend multiple positions makes her a valuable addition to South Carolina’s roster.

This is the second year in a row South Carolina has landed a top five player after signing Joyce Edwards last year. Makeerwill also play in the McDonald’s All-American game on Apr. 1. She is the second member of Staley’s recruiting class for 2025, joining wing Ayla McDowell out of Cypress, Texas.
