PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A 17-year-old has been charged with an open count of murder following an early morning shooting Saturday in Panama City Beach.
According to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office, at 2:24 a.m., they responded to a reported shooting at Wildwood Road and Emerald Cove Street.
Deputies say they found the victim in the road with a gunshot wound. Officials say the victim was taken to an area hospital where they succumbed to their injuries.
We’re told the victim’s car was about 100 yards north of the victim in the road. Blood and bullet holes were reportedly found inside the victim’s vehicle.
A witness says they saw a man flee from the scene and scale a fence. The man was reportedly firing shots as he was fleeing the scene. They said the suspect ran into the Woodlawn neighborhood.
Investigator identified the suspect as 17-year-old Brayden Raul Gomez of Bay County. He was found on Dorothy Avenue and taken into custody.
Investigators say they believe the victim was working as Lyft driver and was driving Gomez to a requested destination when the incident occurred.
Gomez has been charged on an open count of murder and has been taken to the Bay County Jail.
