A Lyft driver was killed by a passenger in Panama City Beach on Saturday morning, according to the authorities.
The sheriff’s office responded to a reported shooting at 2:24 a.m. on Wildwood Road at Emerald Cove Street, west of Hathaway bridge.
Deputies say they found the driver suffering from a gunshot wound. About 100 yards away, they found the victim’s vehicle with blood and bullet holes inside, according to the Bay County Sheriff’s Office.
The victim later died at a local hospital. Brayden Raul Gomez, 17, was arrested after being “quickly identified,” according to the sheriff’s office. He has been charged on an open count of murder. A witness saw Gomez, a resident of Bay County, flee the scene and scale a fence, “firing as he fled,” according to the sheriff’s office. He was eventually found about two miles away on Dorothy Avenue. Investigators said that after speaking with Gomez, they believe the victim was taking the teenager to a requested destination when the shooting occurred. Gomez was taken to the Bay County Jail.
