In the competition to sign Brentford striker Ivan Toney, Chelsea has put in more groundwork than Arsenal.

Journalist Simon Phillips says as much.

Si Phillips recently asserted on his Substack Si Phillips Talks Chelsea podcast that Arsenal has not done as much as Chelsea has in terms of setting the foundation for the signing of Ivan Toney “as of now.”

The Evening Standard revealed last month that both Chelsea and Arsenal are considering January moves for the 27-year-old.

The same source claims that he might set his next club back £80 million.

Chelsea is frantically attempting to sign Brentford’s Ivan Toney.
From what has been mentioned on Si Phillips Talks Chelsea, it appears that Chelsea is very interested in bringing Toney to Stamford Bridge. How come? To be sure, the Blues struggled to score goals in the first part of the season.

They were goalless in September’s games against Bournemouth, Aston Villa, and Nottingham Forest.

Since then, things have significantly improved as Mauricio Pochettino’s team has scored eight goals in their last three Premier League games.

Nevertheless, Pochettino will still have some concerns up front. Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja are both quite young and have had some fitness problems this season.

Therefore, news that Chelsea is interested in Toney is not shocking. During the previous season, the England international scored 20 goals in the top flight. He might be a fantastic addition to the Blues.

However, there is still some time before the January transfer window opens. Hopefully Chelsea can keep scoring goals until then.

Their defense most likely cost them all three points in yesterday’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal. The Gunners’ first goal came from a mistake made by Robert Sanchez, and their second came from Malo Gusto being caught off guard.

Although they had opportunities to go up 3-0, you wouldn’t hold the forwards accountable for the team’s inability to win this time around.
