The balance of the 2023–24 season will see Isaac Hayden on loan at Standard Liège of the Belgian Pro League. Despite recent rumors to the contrary, the agreement does not include a purchase option.
The 28-year-old spent the whole 2018–19 season at Norwich City, where he made just 14 appearances as a result of persistent injury concerns. He is still under contract at St. James’ Park through June 2026.
The former Arsenal academy player has overall made 171 senior appearances for the Magpies, scoring seven goals and playing a significant role in the team, especially under Rafa Benitez.
Hayden will find players like Aiden O’Neill (formerly of Burnley), Noah Ohio (formerly of Manchester United), Romaine Mundle (on loan from Spurs), and Isaac Price (on loan from Everton) at the Maurice Dufrasne Stadion even though Standard aren’t participating in European competition this season and don’t have many well-known players.
Irish Director of Football at Standard, Fergal Harkin, commented on bringing Hayden to Belgium:
Isaac is a strong player who possesses moral character and leadership abilities. He will impart to his new teammates the knowledge he gained in the Premier League, and I have no doubt he will do us proud this season.
Best wishes to Isaac for the upcoming season!
