According to reports, Harvey Barnes of Newcastle United is thinking about supporting Scotland rather than England at the international level.
The Times reports that the 25-year-old, who is entitled to represent Scotland through his grandparents, is now open to the idea of being called up to Steve Clarke’s team despite previously rejecting Scottish offers.
Barnes has represented England at every level, from U-18 to senior, but his only senior debut came in a friendly match as a substitute against Wales in October 2020, so a move to Scotland is still an option.
His chances of being called up to the England squad for the postponed Euro 2020 were dashed by injury, and he has since lost his place in the international picture after failing to make Gareth Southgate’s provisional roster of 55 for the 2022 World Cup.
After scoring 45 goals in 187 appearances for the Foxes, who were dropped to the Championship at the end of the previous campaign, Newcastle reportedly paid Leicester City £38 million to get Barnes in the summer. On the first day of the Premier League season, he also scored on his debut for the Magpies against Aston Villa in a 5-1 victory.
Elliot Anderson, a midfielder for Newcastle with ties to England, was Initially called up by Scotland last week, he withdrew from the team due to an injury before Friday’s 3-0 victory over Cyprus.
