Marc Cucurella was a Spanish defender that Chelsea had intended to loan out or sell during the summer transfer window, but he has remained at Stamford Bridge in anticipation of the January transfer market.
After rejecting Manchester City’s approach to recruit Marc Cucurella in January, Chelsea now run the risk of losing the talent, valued at £31 million, Ian Maatsen to the Premier League winners. The Blues and Burnley had reached an agreement late in the most recent summer transfer window for Maatsen to first move on loan before making a permanent transfer worth £31.5 million the following summer.
The chance to play for Vincent Kompany at Turf Moor was turned down by the Dutch defender. After Mauricio Pochettino began the Spaniard in the 2-1 Carabao Cup second round victory over AFC Wimbledon, Chelsea shot themselves in the foot regarding a loan agreement to see Cucurella join Manchester United.
United focused on getting a loan agreement to sign Sergio Reguilon from Tottenham as a result of the Blues’ choice to start Cucurella in the Carabao Cup. Cucurella turned down loan offers from Atletico Madrid, RB Leipzig, Real Sociedad, and Sevilla, it has subsequently been discovered.
Also disclosed by Fabrizio Romano was City’s’secret’ attempt to sign the 25-year-old on a loan deal with a buy option turned down by Chelsea in January. Ben Chilwell is now without a doubt Pochettino’s first choice left-back, and Cucurella is still committed to fighting for his position in the club.
Cucurella has been benched in favor of Maatsen so far this season, but if he doesn’t start more games, the Dutchman may depart Stamford Bridge in the summer Next summer, Maatsen will have one year remaining on his current deal, and City is reportedly mulling a move for the talented 21-year-old.
