The Cavinder twins announced in April that they would be concentrating their efforts on the WWE.
After announcing in April that she and her twin sister Hanna would forego their final NCAA seasons, Miami’s leading scorer from last season announced on Friday that she will play one more season next year.
Cavinder made the shocking announcement on Instagram, posting a highlight reel with the caption “see you next season #year5”, informing her fans that she will return for the 2024-25 season
“SHESSS BACK,” Hanna said, adding popcorn emojis. “On Friday, March 13th… That’s insane.”
According to reports, Cavinder has entered the transfer portal. It would be her third school if she played elsewhere.
She and her sister Hanna both played three seasons at Fresno State before joining the Hurricanes last season.
Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, both twins have an extra year of eligibility.
Cavinder led her Hurricanes to the Elite 8 of the women’s March Madness tournament as a nine-seed last year, defeating top-seeded Indiana in the second round.
She dropped 12.2 points per game last year, and her 4.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists were both second on the team.
The sisters signed an NIL deal with WWE in December 2021 and hinted that after basketball, they would indulge in the brand. They first appeared in a WWE ring this past June, two months after saying they were turning their focus to the WWE and announcing, at the time, that it was the end of their basketball careers.
“We love the WWE, their fanbase, the sport, the fitness side of it. That fits Hanna and I’s brand and aligns with us. They’re a great partner, and we’re excited about the future with them,” Haley said at the time.”After playing all four years together and deciding not to take our fifth year, we just decided there’s more opportunities besides basketball,” Haley said on “Today” in April. “Obviously, it’s such a difficult position to be in because we wanted to take our fifth year to play and continue, but I think it came down to just optimizing all of the opportunities we have ahead of us.”
